With breath-taking views over the river Douro, Cozinha da Clara celebrates the best of the region’s cuisine in a beautiful contemporary setting.

Named in honour of Claire Bergqvist, who was famous for her hospitality and generosity, we pair every dish with our own wines upon the recommendation of our esteemed winemaker, Jorge Moreira. We also add touches that allude to the family's heritage by including a few of Claire's favourite recipes.

It is important for us to honour the deep tradition of the Trás-os-Montes cuisine so where possible we use vegetables grown from our vegetable garden, ‘Paradise’, and source our ingredients as locally as possible.

We are fiercely proud to be promoting the Douro’s culinary credentials which have rapidly improved in recent years.

Claire Bergqvist

Claire's love of food was legendary as were her dinners at la Rosa around Nelson's table, a copy of which we still have in the dining room. She trained Maria do Conceição to cook a mixture of English, French and Portuguese food inspired by Elizabeth David and Constance Spry. Claire was famous for her hospitality and generosity. So it isn't surprising that we have opened a restaurant in her memory and I just hope we manage to do her justice.

Pedro Cardoso

Executive chef, Pedro Cardoso, worked at Six Senses Hotel in Regua and trained in many of the top restaurants in Portugal before starting Cozinha da Clara in 2017. Under his excellent guidance the restaurant has established itself as one of the best in the area.
